Shouldn't All Students Learn Economics? →
ayjay: The current upheavals in the financial markets have left everyone confused. But in the midst of all the confusion, one thing has become crystal clear: A free country simply must be an economically and financially literate country.

You want me to be Economic Dictator?
Galt: "You want me to be Economic Dictator?"
Thompson: "Yes!"
Galt: "And you'll obey any order I give?"
Thompson: "Implicitly!"
Galt: "Then start by abolishing all income taxes."
Thompson: "Oh no! We couldn't do that...How would we pay government employees?"
Galt: "Fire your government employees."
Thompson: "Oh no!"
---- From "Atlas Shrugged"
Abolishing the income tax - now there's an economic stimulus. Everyone in the country immediately makes 10-30% more income. I realize it's not feasible, but I doubt any would argue that it would not provide the economy a significant kick in the pants.
Yet both the Bush and Obama administrations have done the opposite as of late - dramatically increase the scope of government spending and intervention, which will eventually lead to higher taxes - you cannot deficit spend forever. I wonder what the final price tag will be for Obama's upcoming stimulus package(s) - and how much of it I'll have to pay for.

Evan Reynolds, 19, got his hand and part of his arm ripped off in a car accident and has since been fitted with an i-LIMB, a robotic hand developed by a Scottish company, Touch Bionics. The prosthetic is so sensitive that Reynolds can grip a small bottle of water, an egg, or toss a ball between his hands, no problem. The total cost including the hand itself and the fitting is about £30,000. ...

dylicious: asprettyasasong: sexartandpolitics: Thanks, Jon. This is why I like you. And here I was thinking the Daily Show would have little content for the next 4 years… Nice to see the Daily Show showing a bit of objectivity. Here’s to the next 4 years of satire being just as good as the last 8.

i kinda liked Bush
drned: did anyone else ever see Journeys With George? it was shot on the 2000 campaign trail. it shows him as a bumbling yet very charismatic normal guy. and thats how i’m gonna remember him. i’m 8000% sure he was a figurehead for Cheney/Rove. Bush got the short end of the deal. he was a pretty down to earth Southern dude who, as i’m sure we all would, when someone at some point in some room...

libbylovesnyc: natface:ohtrouble: The utter and complete disrespect that is being shown towards Republicans (specifically Bush & McCain) is disgusting. I can understand disliking a president or politician.  I can absolutely understand disagreeing with him or her.  But when you resort to childish name calling and disrespect to show your feelings about someone, you look like you’ve never...

Modest Mouse Poster
bmiller: christinahaberkern: Hey BMiller, The Modest Mouse poster is a screenprinted gig poster. It was one of the first I bought in my screenprint collection I’ve started. It’s numbered and doesn’t say what state it’s from, but you can easily find gig posters online… just searching for this specific one might be a bit tough. This one wasn’t expensive (in fact, the frame and mat were more...

In our days of outwitting casinos around the world, we have come across many people who thought that they also had a great system, but were in fact compulsive gamblers who eventually lost everything. Among the false systems that intuitively feel right, there is none as insidious and deadly as the Martingale, where a player doubles his bet after every loss.

The Bear (Rug) - Poor Russia. →
Poor Russia. All those dreams of greatness, renewed world position, and (dare we say it) power. For awhile there they looked realistic. Putin was General Secretary of the Communist Party of the Soviet Union President of the Russian Federation Prime Minister for life. Russia had adroitly dominated energy reserves and carved itself into a capitalist (sort of) power. Bear reconnaissance bombers began...

From fred-wilson’s avc.com This is so great on so many levels. Let’s start with the first reason. The new head of the FCC reads this blog. He’s a venture capitalist, at least that’s what he’s been doing for the...
