What Is AT&T Thinking?
Look, I realize that AT&T is going to milk the iPhone for all its worth while it still retains exclusivity rights to the device. That’s understandable. But I, like many others, are already paying $80-$150 a month for our iPhones, which is nuts. So when I heard that AT&T is pushing back iPhone MMS to September and charging $55 for Internet tethering, I nearly flipped my shit.
First off, you can hack your iPhone to enable tethering in about 5 seconds without any jailbreaking nonsense. Don’t believe me? Try it out yourself by loading this link up in MobileSafari on your iPhone and navigate to the proper screen. Boom. Done. Just saved ya $55 a month.
So with that out of the way, let’s talk legit for a minute. Why does AT&T want to rape its current customers even more? $55 is ridiculous. Up the price of the data plan if you must, but what’s next? Charging per megabyte on the iPhone? Yeah, right. AT&T better get its shit straight by the time Apple can offer T-Mobile and Verizon the phone or there’s going to be a lot of defectors.
Agreed on all counts. And this is a great trick, one tap and I have tethering - no jailbreak needed. Cool.

There’s another reason why the Death Star would want to overprice tethering: their network can’t handle it. Already...
