CONFESSION

I used to really like Obama.  Back when he was a new senator (which I know wasn’t long ago) I used to read his speeches and get energized.  It was fun.  It really was.

Then, instead of just listening to his speeches and getting caught up in how nice it would be if what he said would actually work, I tried to figure out how, in reality, things would work.  And I realized: never gonna happen.

Everything he says, everything he does, seems so planned and fake.  That picture that is going around of him hugging a young kid with his eyes closed?  Disgusts me.  It is so posed.  I can almost hear him thinking, ‘If I close my eyes and look serene and happy right now, this will be GOLD.’  His wife is so obviously ripping off Mrs. JFKs style it’s ridiculous.  They are running one of the greatest PR campaigns ever, though.  So props to them for that.

He reeks of insincerity to me now.  He’s like that 8th grader running for STUCO president that gets every student to vote for him by promising PIZZA! and SODA MACHINES! and THINGS THAT WILL NEVER HAPPEN BUT WOULD BE REALLY NICE IF THEY DID!

This just totally hit home for me with the student government analogy. How often were we promised that things would change and we’d get soda machines and longer lunch and less homework? And how often did any of those campaign promises come true?
