A Patriot Would Have Given Your Money To Detroit
Since I’m against the bailout, I must be un-American:
Michigan Gov. Jennifer Granholm (D) said it was “un-American” for senators to have voted against approving a bailout of troubled automakers last night, saying their vote may cause a recession to become a depression. When I think of America, I think of Mom, apple pie, and using taxpayer dollars to bail out bad corporations.
I’m sick of people on the left constantly questioning my patriotism. Seriously, lefties, just because I don’t wear flag pins and support bailouts doesn’t mean that I hate my country.
Fortunately, the President-elect has my back. Barack Obama, earlier in the year:
[T]he question of who is – or is not – a patriot all too often poisons our political debates, in ways that divide us rather than bring us together.Stop poisoning the debate, Governor Granholm. Oh, wait, it looks like Obama said more:
“I also believe that patriotism must, if it is to mean anything, involve the willingness to sacrifice – to give up something we value on behalf of a larger cause,” Mr. Obama said.Yikes! I’m not willing to sacrifice something I value (our economy) for the sake of a “larger cause” (three lousy companies), so maybe I’m not a patriot after all.
I think perhaps you have the definitions switched. Could it be that we must sacrifice something people value (the Big 3), for the sake of a larger cause (our free market system)?
