You want me to be Economic Dictator?

  • Galt: "You want me to be Economic Dictator?"
  • Thompson: "Yes!"
  • Galt: "And you'll obey any order I give?"
  • Thompson: "Implicitly!"
  • Galt: "Then start by abolishing all income taxes."
  • Thompson: "Oh no! We couldn't do that...How would we pay government employees?"
  • Galt: "Fire your government employees."
  • Thompson: "Oh no!"
  • ---- From "Atlas Shrugged"
  • Abolishing the income tax - now there's an economic stimulus. Everyone in the country immediately makes 10-30% more income. I realize it's not feasible, but I doubt any would argue that it would not provide the economy a significant kick in the pants.
  • Yet both the Bush and Obama administrations have done the opposite as of late - dramatically increase the scope of government spending and intervention, which will eventually lead to higher taxes - you cannot deficit spend forever. I wonder what the final price tag will be for Obama's upcoming stimulus package(s) - and how much of it I'll have to pay for.
